A 240 Megawatt coal based Thermal Power Plant is being set up at the Garo Hills, Meghalaya. This will be the first Thermal Power Plant in the state of Meghalaya, which will bridge a huge gap in demand and supply of electric power in Meghalaya and the rest of the North Eastern Region. This is a landmark project for the state, as it will reduce the dependency on Hydro Power from rain fed rivers on one hand and on other it will capitalize on abundant coal reserves in the state. The company is also planning a few small Hydro Power projects in the same area to synergize the natural and human resources.
The projects will not only boost the economy of the region but will also provide ample employment opportunities for the local youth.
